Damage Recovery Time and the elements are two of a firearm's worst enemies (gun-grabbing politicians notwithstanding). Improper storage over time can lead to rust and pitting of the metal parts of a firearm. Immersion in water, whether through hunting, a hurricane, or "tragic boating accident" can quickly ruin a firearm's finish. GCS, LLC can help "turn back the clock" on the damage and return your firearm to a fine finish. You ask, "How can you do that?" Well, here's how... GCS, LLC will remove the rust from your firearm with aluminum oxide, taking the metal parts down to a clean fresh surface. Areas of pitting will then be filled by spraying multiple coats of Lauer's DuraFil product. The surface areas will be hand-sanded down to the metal, leaving the filled pitting with a smooth, finishable surface. This can be a time-consuming process as it may have to be repeated several times depending on the deepness of the pitting (only so much filler should be used at any given time to allow proper curing of the underlying layers). One other use of this product is to remove unwanted markings or words from a firearm. We have successfully removed poor proof-marking, liability-induced "warnings", and other markings. Again, this can be a time-consuming process, but the results are typically excellent. Some examples are shown below. Sprinfield 1911-A1 Damaged by Hurricane Katrina - BEFORE | |
